Keyboard Shortcuts Everyone ought to know.

Keyboard shortcuts are a combination of keys, when pressed execute certain functions. Everyone using windows ought to know some useful keyboard shortcuts which i will be listing below. You may say "We also have a mouse in our hand so why is the daunting task of remmembering shortcuts required?". Yes, ofcourse you may have a mouse, but it sometime sucks !. For example : If you want to minimize all the windows, then what will you do? Go to the top of each and every window and press that - button there. No !. Just press
Windows key + m. It minimizes all the windows open. Easy right?. And about remmembering those keys, just press be experimenting or keep pressing those keys whenever you require and they get stuck into your memory.
                             Well, I am listing  a list of useful shortcuts which are required for everyday use. Keep Pressing them !




Keyboard Shortcuts


WINDOWS + R KEY : Run menu

Run commands:


cmd : Command Prompt.
iexplore + "webaddress" : Internet Explorer
compmgmt.msc : Computer Management
Services.msc : Services
eventvwr : Event Viewer
dsa.msc : Active Directory Users and Computers
Windows key + E : Explorer
devmgmt.msc : Device Manager
msinfo32 : System Information
cleanmgr : Disk Cleanup
ntbackup : Backup or Restore Wizard (Windows Backup Utility)
mmc : Microsoft Management Console
excel : Microsoft Excel (If Installed)
msaccess : Microsoft Access
powerpnt : Microsoft PowerPoint
winword : Microsoft Word
frontpg : Microsoft FrontPage
wordpad : WordPad
calc : Calculator
msmsgs : Windows Messenger
mspaint : Microsoft Paint
wmplayer : Windows Media Player
rstrui : System Restore
netscp6 : Netscape 6.x
netscp : Netscape 7.x
netscape : Netscape 4.x
waol : America Online
control : Opens the Control Panel
control printers : Opens the Printers Dialog

Coming back to common shortcuts, these are a few,

ALT + TAB : Switch between Windows.
ALT + CTRL + DEL : Task Manager
WINDOWS KEY + BREAK : System Properties.
WINDOWS KEY + F : Search
WINDOWS KEY + D : Hide/ Display windows.
CTRL + C : Copy,  CTRL +X : Cut, CTRL + V : Paste.
Also the right click key to the right of windows key : Right Click.
ALT + ESC : Switch between running applications.
ALT + LETTER : Select menu by underlined letter,
For Ex : Look at the top of your browser, there is a underlined F in file, So press Alt + F and see what it does.
ALT + F4 : Close a Active window.
CTRL + (LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW) : Move cursor forward or back by one letter.
F1 : Open help for active application.
WINDOWS + m : Minimize.
WINDOWS + F1 : Open Windows help.
WINDOWS + BREAK : Open System Properties.

 Accessiblity Shortcuts

RIGHT SHIFT FOR EIGHT SECONDS : Switch filter keys on or off.
LEFT ALT + LEFT SHIFT + PRTSCN : Switch high contrast on or off.
LEFT ALT + LEFT SHIFT + NUMLOCK : Switch mouse keys on or off.
SHIFT FOR FIVE TIMES : Switch Sticky keys on or off.
NUM LOCK FOR FIVE SECONDS : Switch toggle keys on or off.

Explorer Shortcuts.

END : Display the bottom of the active windows.
HOME : Display the top of Active Windows.
ALT + RIGHT ARROW : Back.
ALT + LEFT ARROW : Forward.

Web Browser

Just type "google" in the URL bar and press Ctrl + Enter. See What happens !

SHIFT+DELETE : Delete selected item permanently without placing the item in the Recycle Bin.
CPOY SELECTED ITEM : CTRL while dragging an item
F2 : Rename selected item.
F3: Search for a file or folder
ALT+ENTER : View properties for the selected item.
ALT+SPACEBAR : Opens the shortcut menu for the active window.
ALT+ESC : Cycle through items in the order they were opened.
F6 : Cycle through screen elements in a window or on the desktop.
F4 : Display the Address bar list in My Computer or Windows Explorer.
F5 : Refresh the active window.
SHIFT : when you insert a CD into the CD-ROM drive Prevent the CD from automatically playing.

Windows Key Shortcuts


WIN Key : Display or hide the Start menu.
WIN Key+D : Show the desktop.
WIN Key+ L : Lock your computer if you are connected to a network domain, or switch users if you are not connected to a network domain.
WIN Key+U : Open Utility Manager.
